Pollok Park

No proper stats for this one as Strava glitched, but it doesn't matter too much as I'll need to come back to this park to cover more of it. It's massive, so massive in fact that I got lost and came out an entrance a mile away from where I parked.

Pollok Park is one of those places I hadn't been in years, and couldn't remember anything about, but when I got there it was like a whole section of childhood memories became unarchived. I remember the house. My parents took me to the park as a kid, and I would ask about the next time we would be going to "Pok House".

It's easily the biggest of the Glasgow parks, and was names Britain's best park in 2007. The Wikipedia page is naturally more fleshed out than those for the other parks. Originally part of the Old Pollok Estate, and the ancestral home of the Maxwell estate for over 700 years.

The house is a really good one, and unlikely to be turned into flats anytime soon.

The Ranking

Just for fun, and because I'm probably one of the few people who has attempted to visit every park, I've decided to rank them.  It goes without saying, my ranking is entirely subjective, and I haven't spent too long agonising over the placement of each park. These are just gut reactions as I work my way through the parks, and it's simply a rough idea of how much I liked each park.  Apologies if I've graded your favourite park harshly. Alexandra Park

Although there are a lot more people out than a few weeks ago, the weather was pretty uninspiring today, so the park was quiet. I love running in between smaller parks and checking out the different neighbourhoods, but it was a nice change to be in a park where I could run a whole 5k without repeating my steps too much. This is probably the biggest Glasgow park I had never been in before. I've only ever driven past it when traffic has forced me off the M8 and onto Alexandra Parade. It's an interesting park. Kind of iceberg-like, in that there's a small area near the entrance that's very well-presented with flower beds and a Victorian fountain, but there's a big, rougher hinterland that a casual visitor could miss.
